Lo-Manthang means „Valley of Aspiration“

In order to teach the children year round, the Great Compassion School has two campuses.

In summer, kindergarten level to third grade (five years up) stay in Lo-Manthang (3790 meters above see level). While some children can stay with their parent, most board at school, which is located just outside the city walls of Lo-Manthang. Lama Ngawang inherited the estate from his parents.

By the end of October winter reaches the Kingdom of Mustang and school ceases, due to the icy temperatures and lack of firewood or any other fuel. During an exhausting seven-day journey, school and children move, often with their parents, to the lower city of Pokhara (800 meters above see level). The second campus of the great Compassion Boarding School is a 30 minutes walk from the city centre.

From the fourth to the 10th grade, the children stay year round in Pokhara.
